Friends who have never given medicine to cats really don’t know how painful it is to feed them. It is still a trivial matter to be scratched or scratched by cats. It may even foam at the mouth and scare your heart to stop. As a result, when you relax, you will not say that the pills are spit out. When you look closely, there is no sign of it. Even if you find its hiding place, the previous love will be gone.
Before feeding the medicine, we need to make three preparations:
① Understand the drug itself
②Control the cat's actions
③Pry open its mouth!
Carefully read the prescription instructions for the drug, as well as precautions, including the dosage, frequency of feeding, and duration of taking; some drugs will release the efficacy of the drug within the specified time (within a few hours) after swallowing. If the drug is incomplete or crushed, it will not work. It is best to ask the doctor carefully after getting the drug; confirm whether the drug can be swallowed with food. Some drugs must be taken on an empty stomach. If mixed in food, it will affect the efficacy of the drug.
Many cat shovelers have been scratched or bitten by cats during the process of feeding medicine. Although you don’t need to get vaccinated by a domestic cat, no one is willing to be injured after all, so this step is very important, especially when you feed the medicine alone.
Prepare a larger cloth, towels, bed sheets, scarves, etc.; spread the towel flat on the table in a diamond-shaped manner, and then let the cat swathe on it comfortably. You can gently stroke or massage it to relax your guard; the towel must be close to the cat's body, wrap all its limbs (including the tail), and just expose one head, which is a bit like a baby swaddle (but I think it is more like a chicken roll).
If you are worried that it will break free, then tie a rope or a belt outside, and then place the wrapped chicken roll between your legs, so that its head is facing your knees, so that it can be fed medicine.
Cats are different from dogs. They don’t open anything consciously when they put them on their mouths. They are highly vigilant and have to smell it every time. If they find it is medicine, they should not escape, let alone open their mouths. Then use the index finger and thumb of your left hand to form an upside-down U-shaped shape, go down the back of your head, approaching the left and right sides of your upper lip, lift it up with a little force, your nose should face the ceiling, and then the cat's jaw will be slightly opened; after the mouth is slightly opened, the fingertips of your thumb are slightly inserted into the cat's mouth, so that it can be fully grasped by the above three steps, you can start feeding the medicine~
If you are not sure whether the cat has swallowed the pills, keep pinching the cat's mouth until it swallows the pills. (You can also free up your other hand to stroke the throat area to help it swallow).
If you encounter a particularly stubborn cat, you can blow air into its nostrils. It will reflex to swallow, and you can also hear the sound of swallowing if you listen carefully. After you make sure that it swallows the pills, feed it some water or eat some nutritional cream or canned foods that are of interest, so that the pills can follow the food all the way to the stomach.
Do not feed the cat any food a few hours before feeding the medicine, so it will maintain a certain sense of hunger. In addition, some medicines prepared for cats are very small and will not be found in the food, so they are easy to swallow; it is best to prepare the food it usually likes to eat, then divide the food into two feedings, hide the medicine in 1/4 of the food, and after it is finished, feed it the rest; or use the food to feed the medicine and put the medicine in, just like filling the jam into a donut, the taste of the snack will cover up the smell of the tablets; the method of feeding the cat medicine is actually almost the same.
